Overview

The Ann Ligouri Foundation Sports Media Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who wish to pursue a career in sports broadcasting, reporting, programming or production. Applicants must be at least a rising junior. The New York Women in Communications Scholarship Committee awards the recipients on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community-service activities, honors and other awards or recognition, work experience, and statement of goals and aspirations. Need and unusual personal and/or family circumstances are also considered. The scholarship also includes an internship with CBS Radio Sports Network.

Award Amount     

The award amount for this scholarship is $2500. Only one award is granted every year. The award is non-renewable.

Requirements     

Must be a US Citizen.

Must be a Permanent resident of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania.

Must be High school seniors who are permanent residents of the states above.

Must attend a high school in one of the states above and will graduate in 2016.

Must be College undergraduate and graduate students who are permanent residents of one of the states above.

Graduate students must also be members of New York Women in Communications in good standing.

Must be a Woman.

Must be majoring, planning to declare a major, or pursuing an advanced degree in a communications-related field at an accredited college/university in the U.S. Communications-related fields include, but are not limited to, advertising, broadcasting, communications, digital media, English, film, journalism, marketing, public relations, or publishing.

Must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or better (or the recalculated high school equivalent).

Competition Level     

This scholarship earns a medium competition level rating. Scholarships with a medium competition level usually are well-known within the geographic area. In addition, national scholarships that limited to a small group of students will also earn a medium competition rating. If you meet the requirements, we suggest you work this into the mix of scholarships that you are applying to.
